I Believe In You

We live in a cruel world. It is filled with hate and injustice. It is filled with war, hunger, disease, and heartache. People are cold, mean and hurtful. The world we live in today is breaking down all around us with the threat of war everywhere and difficult economic times on a global level. It seems each individual is faced with continuous obstacles in this ever harshening life just to make it through. You need to watch out for yourself, because in our difficult world, nobody will do it for you.

Is this how you see the world?

I don’t blame you really.

It ALMOST can’t be helped when all you the news you hear is filled with pessimism and talks of hate, anger, betrayal, and greed. It is difficult to fathom that good still exists when you or your neighbor are facing hardship and despair.

But ….

Do you see the hopelessness that this type of thinking brings about?

This hopelessness leads to more despair because people don’t believe that it can be helped or changed.

It CAN be changed!

You CAN change.

I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!

I strongly believe that good still exists. I believe that there is good in you, YES – all of you!

It is true that difficult things in life do exist. I am a realist and I understand and accept that fact. I realize that I cannot change the world, as much as I’d like to.

However, I do feel very strongly that there is still a wealth of love, friendship, and compassion in the world as well. We have witnessed this in our nation during times of great tragedy and we see this within our own family and friends during times of adversity.

These good and true things in life and in you are still there. However, it is this chain reaction of hopelessness and pessimism that brings us down and keeps us from acting.

I cannot change the world.

You may not be able to change the world.

But …

We can make a difference.

Even if you make a difference to only one person, that is a world of difference to one person – one life. And isn’t a life more precious than any monetary value could possibly place on it?

You don’t have to donate millions of dollars to charity to make a difference. It can be something as small as a smile given to somebody who is down or a hand held out to a friend in need.

As Leo Buscaglia once said,

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

Don’t allow the world of hopelessness and pessimism to bring you down. See the good in yourself, and in others, and make a difference.

And just perhaps … we can stop (or at least slow) this spread of pessimism and instead, instill hope into others who may need it – one person at a time!

Believe in yourself,

Just as I believe in you!

I originally wrote and posted this when I first began my other blog, A Wave Will Rise on Quiet Waters, but decided to post here as well, because it is a thought that is dear to my heart. I truly believe that we can make a difference in our world, community, and even family. And how much difference we could collectively make, if we all would simply believe we can.
