I've found that in my life I tend to give my trust to someone fully but once that trust is broken, I can never trust them again. It's probably not very wise to do this, because the hurt is even more due to your vulnerability. I'm learning to be more careful in this area.

You're absolutely right regarding friendship. It's not very often you come across true friends. I'd rather have one true friend in the whole world than a hundred "friends."

Thank you Jane, and I do agree that my greatest blessing and strongest foundation are my parents and family.

I too, have trusted to easily and too much, and with that, left myself open to be hurt again and again. But Brent, with his wise quote said it very well. And another thing to keep in our minds too, is that we learn and we grow from each experience that we have, both good and bad, joyful or painful.

I LOVE to dance too, it's something about the music and sense of freedom and joy I think. And that is one of the wonderful things about children, they bring so much joy that you just can't help but let loose. I can just picture the two of you with your card, and it sounds amazing.

BTW, wouldn't it surprise your grandchildren if you DID run thru the sprinklers with them! :)

The most recent "letting loose, fun things" I've done is dancing with my grandchildren. I LOVE dancing anyway, I exp. such freedom and joy when I dance, even by myself. One of my grandchildren, Mara, age 5, has kept my daughter's Mother's Day card, the type of one that when you open the card it plays a tune. Well this card plays, "How Sweet It Is To Be In Love With You." She knows EVERY word and she has brought it out this week and we not only sing it together but we dance too! Having fun and letting loose is such an important thing we NEED to do in life. Sometimes it is spontaneous and then at times we need to plan it. B.T.W., haven't ran in a sprinkler since my kids were wee ones; I'll have to keep that in mind for this summer with my 3 grandchildren :).

First of all I would like to say that you're greatest blessing and strongest foundation would have to be your family/parents who instilled such wonderful qualities in you that all can enjoy. I am grateful with you for this.

You hit on some important issues, esp. the trust, friendship thing. I'm the type that begins a relationship, male or female, trusting too much, giving too much of myself away and find out later that perhaps the motives of that individual that I called a "friend" wasn't pure. Along with these experiences, and with age, I realize now that one does have to move cautiously in these areas, remaining true to yourself/being you and if something goes awry, it just wasn't meant to be.

Something I had spoken to me in therapy 20 years ago was that no one is responsible for your happiness. A HUGE light bulb went off in my head-such a revelation for me. Too bad that it took this long to "really get this truth."

What a post! You've clearly put an amazing amount of thought into this one. So much of it I completely agree with. Some thoughts on a few pooints that spoke to me:

A true friend is the rarest thing in the world and the most valuable.

It is very hard to live an authentic life (true to yourself) but if you do, but it is worth every effort.

I think the points about trust relate to being responsible for your own happiness. I trust everyone completely, but I have arrangements in place should they not live up to my trust. I don't feel betrayed when someone doesn't live up to it. I feel sorry for them that they couldn't be better, but I feel good for myself that I allowed them the chance.

I agree with everyone. Yes dancing and enjoying life to its fullest can be a form of meditation. I studied meditation for trauma victims with mind body medicine and that was one of the types of meditation they taught.

he he he he ...I'd say that there is no better fun than letting go. It certainly feels good.

Done a lot of it with my friends like hugged a complete stranger, sang loudly in the subway with my friends, passed out at toll both on the bridge...and blew up cow dung...the list just goes on.

Very few people do evil intentionally. Most of the time it's ignorance, shortsightedness, or selfishness that cause this behavior. But that same person has the potential for good in them and it could be awakened at any time. That's why doing good is important, seeing someone behave kindly, or rightly,reminds us all that good exists and makes it easier for us to reach. A recent example is Conan O'Brien taking time on his last show to remind young people to be kind and not cynical! ANd of course there are bigger things like the Haiti relief efforts. Sometimes we need something to point us the right way!

this is a perfect theme to think about when I'm feeling like I was wronged. Not seeing the misunderstanding in situations leads to very ugly feelings that do nothing to make the situation any better. Those ugly feelings do nothing but make me feel worse.

Not letting the hate into my heart is the only way to get through life with a fulfilled or content feeling in the end. Why would I want to go through this world at all if I wasn't able to be happy with the outcome?

Bernadine, I am so happy (along w/ Marty) to know that you found your way to the Authentic Blogger (AB) group and that you're enjoying our community! It is moments such as these that we both cherish and value - it lets us know that we're really making a small difference in the world. That was our Number One goal when we took the big leap of faith to create the group page.

I also believe in the "there are no accidents" theory and feel that the right people find our group at the right time for them. I love hearing the stories of how each blogger finds us - it is fascinating and reassuring to know that that Higher Power is always at work.

Throughout life, I've typically tried to trust other people until they give me a reason not to trust them. It's been expensive and painful sometimes, but more often it has been rewarding beyond my wildest expectations!
I try to temper that, however, with this reminder from an old friend, "Everyone has an agenda; except me." !! LOL
